Uddhav Thackeray set to become joint leader of Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress
The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress has decided to elect Uddhav Thackeray as its joint leader to stake claim to form the government in the changed political scenario after BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis resigned as chief minister in Maharashtra (Maharashtra). A senior Shiv Sena leader gave this information on Tuesday. Shiv Sena is the second largest party in the assembly with 56 seats.
The Shiv Sena leader said, "Uddhav Thackeray will be elected joint leader of the three parties in the evening meeting at the hotel in Mumbai to stake claim to form the government." After this, Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress will jointly submit a joint letter to the Governor to form the government.
A senior NCP leader said that the three parties - Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress - have resolved most of the issues. He said, "I don't think the three parties will take any more time to stake claim to form the government."
After the announcement of Fadnavis' resignation, there is no need to conduct a strength test on the floor of the House on Wednesday, according to the order of the Supreme Court. "Instead, the governor will invite the second largest party Shiv Sena to stake claim to form the government," he said.
According to the official, for this, the Governor will need a joint statement of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress and a list with signatures of MLAs. The combined strength of Shiv Sena's 56, NCP's 54 and Congress's 44 MLAs is 154 while only 145 members are needed for a majority in the 288-member Assembly.
On Tuesday, three days after taking oath as Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis announced his resignation. He said that BJP did not have a majority in the House after Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar resigned for personal reasons.
