PM Narendra Modi gives Maldives highest honor to foreign dignitaries
During the two-day state visit of the island nation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Maldives's highest honor was awarded "the rule of Mark Izzuddin" on Saturday - his first foreign visit after coming to power for the second consecutive year.
During a ceremony here, PM Modi was awarded the prestigious award by President Ibrahim Mohammed Solihid of Maldives.
After receiving the honor, PM Modi said, "Today, I have been honored with the highest honor of the Maldives, I humbly accept it. It is not just honor given to me, but it is a respect given to the friendship and relations between our two countries. India values its relations with the Maldives. We want to have a strong partnership with each other. India is ready to help the Maldives by all means. The friendship of India and the Maldives can end forever. ''
Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said on Twitter, "The most honorable order of the prestigious regime of Nishan Isudin" is the highest honor given to the foreign dignitaries of the Maldives.
The purpose of PM Modi's visit is to strengthen bilateral relations, in which India reflects the importance of our hood Neighborhood First 'policy.
On arrival at Malé Airport, a formal reception and 21-gun salutes were made by Maldivian Armed Forces.
Modi Modi tweeted Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid, who tweeted that welcoming the Indian leader is a matter of respect for him.
During his two-day visit, PM will also visit Sri Lanka on 9th June after the Maldives.
PM Modi's journey is in accordance with 'India's first policy' of New Delhi and 'Neighborhood First' policy of New Delhi.
Flags of India and Maldives were flagged for the reception of PM Modi and his delegation on the streets in Male.
"This is a very historic journey, it will allow us to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, all preparations are in place, it is a great honor for us because this visit has been given the status of state visit, " Ambassador. India for the Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir said.
Prime Minister will meet the President of the Maldives Ibrahim Solihih and the two leaders are expected to sign several agreements related to customs cooperation, capacity building, defense and connectivity issues.

The prime minister also has a program to address the parliament of Maldives.
This is only for the second time when a foreign leader will address the Majlis (Maldivian Parliament).
Last month, the Parliament of Maldives passed a resolution to invite PM Modi to address the House during his visit unanimously.
In addition to Solihay, PM Modi will also meet the President of Vice President Faisal Nasim and Majlis (Parliament of the Maldives) and former President Mohammed Nasheed.
PM Modi had previously visited the island nation in November last year to join the swearing-in ceremony, who took office after defeating Abdullah Yameen in the presidential elections.
During the visit of Solih to India in December, New Delhi announced a financial assistance of $ 1.4 billion to Malé.
PM Modi will then go to Sri Lanka on June 9 and will meet with the leaders of the opposition, the Prime Minister and the island nation.
