"We rescued tourists stranded between heavy snowfall in northern Sikkim. In the two hour intervals, unprecedented snowfall cut off popular tourist attractions of the Lachung Valley, causing tourists to become helpless. A senior officer of the Eastern Command said that the troops of Trishakti Corps immediately instructed the Quick Reaction Team (QRT), including medical staff to detect tourists, provide them medical care and bring them to a nearby army camp. Introduced

Army troops launched a rescue operation and carried all the stranded people. There were some elderly and children in the stranded tourists who complained of dizziness, breathlessness and other symptoms related to height. Immediate medical facility was given to a woman with a truncated hand

"All rescued tourists are being provided food, shelter and medical care in Army camps, in which the snowfall and the temperature are below minus 10 degrees."

Army sources said overnight rescue and search operations will continue to detect any other tourist stranded in the area.

This is the second rescue campaign that has been done this winter. On December 28, 2018, Indian Army jawans had removed more than 3,000 stranded tourists from the Nathula area in the biggest defense campaign ever undertaken in Sikkim.
