New Delhi: The next day after the resignation of Urjit Patel, the government has announced the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Former Finance Secretary Shakhantant Das will be the new governor of RBI. Tell you, on Monday evening, Urjit Patel suddenly resigned from the post of governor. He said the reason for the resignation was private. After the resignation, Patel had said that it was my good fortune that for many years I got an opportunity to work in different positions in the RBI. Finance Secretary Ajay Narayan Jha, while giving information on Tuesday afternoon, told that the government will announce the name of the new governor till the evening.

Resigned before the completion of the term

Urjit Patel is the first RBI governor since 1990, who has resigned before completion of his term. Patel's resignation came just 4 days before the crucial meeting of the Board of Directors of the RBI. Significantly, there was a tension in the past for some time with respect to the autonomy of the RBI between Patel and the government. Talking to the media, Finance Secretary Ajay Narayan Jha had said that no government announcement could be made by the government in the evening regarding the RBI.

The most discussed was the name of Das

After the resignation of Urjit, the name of Shastikant Das was the most discussed. The logic behind his name was that the ruling dal is considered as one of the most powerful people in the country as the Secretary of the Central Economic Affairs.

About the Emigrant Das

Born on February 26, 1957, Das is an IAS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre. Prior to becoming RBI Governor, he is a member of the 15th Finance Commission of India and Sherpa G20 of India after retirement. He has also worked as the Secretary of Economic Affairs of India, Revenue Secretary of India and Fertilizer Secretary of India. During his tenure as the Secretary of the Central Economic Affairs, the ruling dal was considered one of the most powerful people of India.
