Alok Verma was removed from the post of CBI director, decision taken by the selection committee

New Delhi: CBI director Alok Verma has been removed from his post. The decision was taken at the meeting of the PM's selection panel. There were also Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Justice AK Sikri in the meeting. Justice Sikri appeared on behalf of the country's Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. Earlier, there was a meeting of the panel on Wednesday, which was going on.

The selection committee decided to remove Alok Verma with a majority of 2-1. However, his tenure is till January 31. Mallikarjuna Kharge opposed the decision to remove Verma. PM Modi and Justice Sikri were in favor of the removal of Verma. In the CVC report, Verma was charged with corruption.

On Thursday, the meeting of the high powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held. This meeting lasted more than two hours. Supreme Court restored Alok Verma to his post. He had sent them to the government for nearly two months before the leave. There were also Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Justice AK Sikri in the meeting. Justice Sikri appeared on behalf of the country's Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

CBI chief Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana had accused each other of corruption, after which they were sent for forced leave. Verma canceled most of the transfer by M Nageshwar Rao while retaining the post on Wednesday. Interim CBI Chief was appointed in Rao Verma's absence.
