KGF Review: You first get attention about crime film filmmaker Prashant Neel's ambitious two-part period film. This project is largely, in a 'Mad Max', 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is met in a way, where the action style is about the same, as from 1950 to 2018, it spans more than five decades. We have to knit a complex story. While one can see that on a large scale the budget has been kept for a good use with a wide set and a top production price, there is a desire that enough investment was also done in the story. Non-linear stories sometimes get confused and you think of only three characters who are Rocky, Border (Srinitha Shetty) and Garuda (Ram Chandra). The remaining cast, while interesting, remains a blur.
The film is clearly out of our hero Rocky (Yash), who is a child of Mumbai's roads, which grows up and becomes a man army. While his greatness has been established in the first half, there are many such scenes that show how our main person is kik-ass, which is tedious, especially in the second half. Everyone pumped and in a gangster mode, Yash brings all the heavy lifting here and there are more than a dozen battle scenes, most of which are choreographed. To match their angst, Miss Supernational 2016, Srinidhi Shetty, who exhibits a confident performance as a feudal young girl, and shows the Badass scene of Yash as her love interest.
For fans of Yash, there are enough moments to make and hoot, and 'KGF: Chapter 1' will be made for an entertaining film outing. For those who are not fans, it can be a little too heavy, given that it is a dubbed version and many characters have to be tracked to make sense of the story. It is being said that filmmaker Prashant Neel has prepared set-seats for Cracking Sequel very well, which we hope is better than the film.
