He said that to ensure that there is a direct fight against BJP, the hard work of seat sharing on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections should also be resolved. Addressing a massive rally organized by Mamta Banerjee at the Brigade Parade Ground here, he said, "People want a new government."
'The need for a stable government to build a strong nation'
Devgowda said, "There is a need for a stable government to build a strong nation. But even after getting 282 seats in the 2014 elections, Narendra Modi wants to ruin the secular nature of the country and ruin all constitutional institutions rather than build a strong nation.
He said that often this question is asked who will be the Prime Minister after Modi. He said that the opposition leaders should definitely have the confidence that they can give a stable government for five years and it should also be ensured by the leaders gathered in the rally.
'Opposition has to show that it can give stable government'
Devgowda said that PM Modi claims that the coalition government is unstable and can not achieve anything, but the opposition has to show that it can give stable government and also can develop the nation.
Referring to the coalition government in his leadership between June 1996-April 1997, he said that this (the then government) approved the project of the Peugeot Bridge in Assam, which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.
He said, "My government has also approved the approval of the Delhi Metro, 36 crores poor have been helped by giving rice, wheat and kerosene oil at concessional rates." He stressed that the coalition government can ensure the development of the people and the nation.
